World Cup, Iran: Day 3

Buxton/Rey

I read the blog I posted yesterday and obvisously I lacked appropriate sleep. After getting three hours in, we woke up early for breakfast and had an early departure from Tehran to Kermanshah. We found out there was a delay for weather. The good news was that we were flying to Kermanshah with the Iranian World Cup Team. We had a police escort to the airport and once again were given VIP treatment. They checked our bags for us, which was really convenient, and again displaying their hospitality.

We had a one hour flight and checked into our hotel around 4pm. The Iranians met us at the airport, as well as at hotel – very excited to see team USA at the World Cup. What also is evident is Jordan Burroughs is a “rock star” in Iran. They are great fans of wrestling as they give gifts to the Americans and were very interested in getting pictures of all the athletes, especially Olympic Champions Jordan Burroughs and Kyle Snyder, as well as World Champion Logan Stieber and Bronze Medalist James Green. They have rolled out the red carpet and have really gone out of their way to make this trip possible and giving our wrestlers the opportunity to compete. I praise them for their effort, cooperation and friendliness throughout this trip.

We left for a workout at 5pm sticking to busy schedule for the day. Coach Bill Zadick put the team through a great workout as the entire team needed to recover from a long travel and get focused. We found out that we will wrestle Georgia and Russia the first day, then Azerbaijan the following morning to finish up our pool competition .
