World Cup, Iran: Day 7

Buxton/Rey

Yesterday was an amazing experience for me. The people of Iran are so passionate about wrestling and they cheered us on as we wrestled in a match in the second round. After our matched I stayed and watched Iran vs India, and Azerbaijan vs Georgia and the house was rockin!

After the match Bill Zadick, Rich Binder and Moe Taratovian (our translator) watched the Iran sport channel as our version of sport center. While their interview was going on I was sitting in the arena and spoke through google translate to many Iranian people. They are avid wrestling fans but also fans of America; their passion was overwhelming.

We had a great match with Russia winning 6-2 as we won five matches in a row. Zach Rey wrestled well winning 4-1 fighting through muscle spasms in the 2nd period. I was really impressed with David Taylor as he found an offensive groove in teching his opponent. Its good to see Jordan Burroughs hit his stride as the world has made adjustments to him and he making adjustments, as well. James Green continues to score points and Logan Stieber is so competitive hitting a cement job at the end of his match to win.

What was upsetting was Frank Molinaro ‘s match as I believe they made a technical error and should have put the Russian on the shot clock. Frank continues to compete hard. Tony Ramos hit some nice attacks – I hope to see him continue in the next 2 rounds.

I am writing this while eating breakfast so excuse any typos. Last night was a long night – had to get ready for Azerbaijan.
